View of Gaiola island  Isola Della Gaiola is a small but beautifully formed island just off the gulf of Naples , where the rocky shores are lapped by the emerald waters clear enough for glimpses of the submerged ancient ruins below . The island remains abandoned , and many locals refuse to go near it for fear of becoming the next victim of the island's curse .  The island actually comprises two islets connected by a narrow stone bridge just a few meters in length.at one time , it was known as Euplea and was considered the protector of safe navigation . The run of bad luck might have started in 1800s when a hermit lived on the island. Isolated from the community , save for the occasional hand our from local fishermen . The hermit lived a solitary existence , so there was no one to provide an explanation when he simply vanished without a trace , never to be seen again.  Luigi de Negri was the next resident . he built the spacious villa that still stands on the island today ...

Poveglia Island

The Poveglia Island Poveglia was constructed on a permanent fortification built by the venetian government and from 1793-1814 was used as a plague quarantine station .  The tiny island is said to have hosted over 160,000 infected souls living out their final days and hours there -- so many that there are whispers that 50 percent of the soil consists of human remains . Recently mass graves have been found on the nearby islands of Lazaretto Nuovo and lazaretto Vecchio containing the remains of thousands of plague victims . Poveglia is yet to be fully investigated Finding the location of poveglia to be small and easily missed , Napoleon also used the island for a darker purpose , storing weapons there . The location was discovered and many small battles took place as the island claimed even more lives .  In 1922 , a mental hospital was opened on poveglia . AOSHIMA ISLAND  The cats of Aosima Island  Aoshima might be the most famous cat island in japan . Its nickname "cat island" is not at all exaggerated because there are only 15-20 residents on the island but there are more than 120 cats , which is about 6 times the human population .  Aoshima is a 1.6 km long island located  in the Ehime prefecture of southern japan . Cats were originally introduced on the ships because the local fishermen had too deal with a rodent problem . But the cats stayed on the island and reproduced , thus the population increasing almost exponentially .  However aoshima island is not a tourists spot . There are no cars , hotels , restaurants or even vending machines on the island .   The Sable Island horses  Sable island is a small Canadian island situated 300km southeast of Halifax , nova scotia and about 175 km southeast of the closest point of the mainland of nova scotia in the north Atlantic ocean . Notable for its early Canadian history and the sable island horse , the island is protected and managed by parks Canada which must grant permission to any visit . The island is also a protected national park reserve and important bird area .  The island is notable because of the sable island horses . After surviving centuries of harsh winter , the exact origin of the sable horse is unknown . Some believe they are the ancestors of horses that survived shipwreck , while others claim Norsemen or John Cabot or Portuguese explorers or Acadians had left them on the island .   British soldiers landing on the coast of Ramree island  Ramree is an island off the coast of Rakhine state ,  Myanmar . the area of the island is approximately 1,350 square Kilo meter. in the Burmese language it is called Yanbye island  . the canal is separated from the mainland by a narrow canal like strait , which is only 150 meter wide .there is a bridge over the island that connects the island with the continental shore .  during world war II , Ramree island was the site of number of military battles, but the truly terrifying action began after the military maneuvers ended .  on January 26,1945 , British troops made their way to Ramree island so they could establish  new airbase . The Island of the dolls is , located in the channels of Xochimilco  south of the center of Mexico City , very close to the Estadio Azteca f ootball stadium, . Dolls of various styles and colors are found throughout the island, originally placed by the former owner of the island, Julián Santana Barrera. He believed that dolls helped to chase away the spirit of a girl who drowned years ago. He died in 2001 of a heart attack. Sources say he was close to the same spot where the girl drowned. The Island of the Dolls, originally owned by Don Julián Santana Barrera, is full of dolls hanging from trees and buildings covered with cobwebs and insects.   A little girl feeding the rabbits at the island  Okunoshima or Usagi Shima is a tiny and abandoned island in the inland sea of japan sitting in the Takehera city , Hiroshima prefecture . popular as the rabbit island , the island is only accessible through a ferry which is available from Tadanoumi and Omishima .  The island is known as the 'Rabbit Island' because of the high number of rabbits living there . The rabbits are very cute and are surprisingly approach humans .   The concept of bunnies roaming freely on an island uninhabited by humans sounds very cute , but the island actually has a dark history . no one knows how bunnies came to be the major occupiers of tis island .
